Don Brookshire is a graduate of Fredericksburg High School and Texas A&M University. Don and his wife, the former Elisabeth Krauskopf, returned to Fredericksburg after completing their college education. Having grown up in Stonewall and Fredericksburg, both felt that the Hill Country was the ideal place to raise a family. Don retired from Fredericksburg High School after a successful 24-year career as varsity girl's basketball coach. The Brookshires have two daughters and one grandson. They are members of First Baptist Church and enjoy spending time at their ranch in Willow City.

Throughout their teaching careers the Brookshires invested in real estate as part of their retirement/investment portfolio.
